As a minority healthcare provider, it’s our job to manage and mitigate impediments to providing quality healthcare and often times means the management of microagressions, unsavory comments or the questioning of your right and ability to serve as a healthcare provider.

You may see a girl who has overcome adversity with resilience, but I hope you also see a girl who is only human, a girl who has a disability she know her doctors can change, a girl who is good enough to become a doctor despite having this.

I know the odds are stacked against me: I am a woman, I am a mother of a child under 10, I am an Afro-Latina, I am first generation pre-med and a non-traditional candidate… the list goes on and on. But rather than deter me, these facts fuel me.

Throughout my journey, I’ve faced countless challenges and setbacks along with a fair share of doubters who tried to bring me down. My hope is that sharing my tips and experiences will help inspire a generation of amazing and diverse young minds follow their dreams.

My sexuality accounts for one of the thousands of things that people know about me, and it's not all that I am. By honoring the diversity in all of us, we create a happier, healthier society!
