Statistics show that social media affects 41% of consumers decisions when choosing a particular doctor, hospital, or private practice. With numbers steadily rising, this means that you may want to make maintaining your online presence a priority.

This Wednesday marks the 195th birthday of Elizabeth Blackwell, a courageous women who paved the path for females in healthcare. To honor Blackwell and her legacy, Hala Sabry DO, Medelita H.I.P. Ambassador and founder of Physician Mother Group (PMG), has declared February 3rd as the first official National Women Physician day.

Across social media there have been cries of outrage in response to a recent segment on The View during which the talk show hosts mocked and belittled a contestant of the recent Miss America Pageant who came onstage to discuss her career as a registered nurse while wearing scrubs and a “doctor's stethoscope". But with every cloud comes a silver lining. 

FOAM (Free Open Access Meducation) is a radical departure from how practitioners across the globe have traditionally accessed medical information. It is a philosophy, a movement, and a community—FOAM is as fluid of a concept as the constantly evolving medical knowledge it strives to make accessible. 

Medelita is proud to announce Sarah Bryczkowski, MD as the winner of our #HelpUsMedelita giveaway, for which we received many stellar submissions for offices that needed a uniform makeover! Sarah is a general surgery resident at the university hospital at Rutgers, and her team desperately needed a wardrobe upgrade from the baggy, uncomfortable scrubs and lab coats they had to work in.

In early August, a simple hashtag was introduced to Twitter. From this hashtag #ILookLikeASurgeon, a powerful social movement to eliminate gender norms in the field of surgery was born. By the morning of August 16th, the hashtag #ILookLikeASurgeon had been tweeted nearly 15,000 times and was mentioned on Instagram nearly 500 times. 

When I was young I can remember running science experiments on random household items (much to my mother's dismay), determining which of my action figures would fit into the vacuum cleaner, what sound did light bulbs make when compressed in a trash compactor,  or what happened when you took a Hypercolor t-shirt in the microwave (note: it turned pink).  

Company founder, Lara Francisco, PA-C has been hard at work developing new concepts for more functional fabrics in our lab coats and scrubs. One frequent request that we get is to develop lab coats that offer the most comfort in higher temperatures without degrading the shape of the garment.
