Bryan Mayfield is a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist who spends most of his days practicing as a community pharmacist in Dallas, Texas. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2013, and he has additional certifications in Medication Therapy Management and Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery from the American Pharmacists Association and Community Pharmacy Based Point of Care Testing from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores.
A true leader within his field, Bryan loves being a pharmacist and advocate for his patients. In his own words,
"Pharmacy chose me more than I chose it but I fall more and more in love with it each passing day.
The variety is what keeps me engaged. Monday I could be talking to patients about the efficacy and side effect profiles of a new drug, Tuesday I could be talking to my bosses about profit and loss statements and how to best impact them, Wednesdaycould be spent training other pharmacists and technicians on the intricacies of pharmacy inventory management, Thursdaycould involve a conference call with other pharmacy managers to discuss how to improve patient experience and Friday might include a conversation with a drug rep about which immunizations we should offer patients and the best times to administer them. Then I may spend the weekend catching up on industry news, listening to quarterly earnings calls or reading journals and periodicals about novel therapies or guideline changes.Pharmacists, along with nurses, medical doctors, and sometimes dentists, consistently rank in top 3 or 4 of Gallup’s annual poll for ethics and honesty. There is a ton of published research that has evaluated the effect a white coat has on a persons’ opinion of the wearer. I feel that both the white coat and the attire underneath it help to create the professional image that is required to be a successful healthcare professional."
