U.S. News and World Report recently released its 2016 list of Best Hospitals, and three of California’s own medical organizations ranked amongst the top 15. The survey analysis looks at clinical specialties, procedures and medical conditions, and scores hospitals based on patient safety, survival rates, and nurse staffing amongst other factors.
Of 4,400 hospitals surveyed nationwide, UCLA Medical Center, UCSF Health and Stanford Health Care came in 4th, 7th and 14th place.
UCLA Medical Center, 4th Place: Founded in 1955, UCLA Medical Center is a national leader in organ transplantation and has received Magnet Status for Nursing Excellence. UCSF Health, 7th Place: With 770,000 patient visits and 38,000 hospital admissions each year, USCF Health is dedicated to “reimagining what health care can be” in order to “redefine what is achievable for the people we serve.” UCSF covers a wide range of specialties, from its main hospital facility, to children’s care, women’s health, multiple cancer departments, psychiatric clinics, and its school of medicine. The organization is known for it’s innovative practices and technological advancements in the medical field, and also stands out in treating heart and neurological disorders, orthopedics and organ transplants. Whatever service it’s providing the hospital’s staff strives to live up to it’s mission of “Caring, Healing, Teaching and Discovering.”
Stanford Health Care, 17th Place: In collaboration with its tech neighbors in Silicon Valley, Stanford boasts an “unmatched track record of scientific discovery, technological innovation and translational medicine.” Staffing a total of 15,232 employees, residents and fellows, volunteers and other medical professionals, the organization is internationally renowned for it advanced medical practices and commitment to patient care. Stanford is a pioneer of innovative treatments and therapies in areas such as cancer, neuroscience, surgery, cardiovascular medicine and organ transplant.
