Earlier this week it was announced that Irvine-based St. Joseph Health has bought over two dozen Nurse Next Door franchise units with an option to purchase 12 more. This announcement comes as part of an effort by St. Joseph Health to assist their patients while they recover at home after being discharged.
Based out of Canada, Nurse Next Door is a franchise home healthcare provider that offers services such as meal preparation, alzheimer's support, live-in care, nursing care, and many more. Patients can choose between various levels of care from qualified caregivers based upon their needs.
Nurse Next Door has about 140 locations in North America, including 6 within Orange County. With the purchase of these new units, new locations for the franchise will include LA County and San Bernadino County.
John Bennet, St. Joseph Health's Chief Administrative Officer, commented saying, “Care for our clients doesn’t end when they leave the hospital." Home healthcare providers such as Nurse Next Door are intended to reduce hospital readmission rates, lowering the cost of healthcare for patients and providers.
