Christine A. Garcia, MD, MPH is a chief resident in internal medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Integrative Physiology and English Literature and a Masters of Public Health from the University of Illinois. Prior to obtaining her medical degree from St. George’s University, she was a community health program specialist in San Diego for the County of San Diego Health and Human Services, focusing on health education in the immunizations’ department, pandemic flu planning, and disease outbreak management during a county-wide measles’ outbreak in 2005. In this role, she also served on several statewide public health committees on adolescent and adult vaccines. Christine completed her internal medicine residency at State University of New York at Stony Brook University Hospital and currently serves as a chief resident for the internal medicine residency program. She is particularly interested in medical education, quality improvement and patient safety, and simulation-based training. Christine plays an active role in teaching medical students and residents, and was selected for membership to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) national medical honor society by the Stony Brook Medicine class of 2015. She has presented multiple research, quality improvement and patient safety projects at local and national conferences. Outside of her clinical responsibilities, Christine enjoys cooking, volunteering, narrative writing, traveling, and medical mission trips abroad. She regularly volunteers at a local soup kitchen, as well as serves as a medical volunteer at the NYC marathon annually. Christine is a freelance writer who has been featured in Medscape on the Beyond the Classroom Blog. Christine was a Medelita The Right Fit H.E.R.O. (Honoring Excellent Resident Observations) Award Nominee in March 2014. Christine will starting hematology and oncology fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in July 2016.
