The Hoag Hospital Foundation, a philanthropic branch of the hospital group based in Southern California, recently received a generous donation of $5 million from its parent organization. This funding will be used to expand the wellness services provided at the Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living, where underserved patients can take advantage of the wellness programs offered.
The Hoag Center for Healthy Living has been a gift to the surrounding communities by acting as a resource for non-clinical health services. It houses a number of organizations and collaborative partners who work together to provide holistic care for community members. Robert Braithwaite, president and CEO of Hoag, announced that the funds will be used to expand the number of organizations who offer community health services.
The proliferation of community wellness centers stems from an understanding that good health starts outside the clinical setting. By creating healthy communities we can begin educating people before they even become patients, leading to an overall improvement in health outcomes.
